Sunday just might have been the best day of my life.
My friend Alex and I arrived in Zadar, Croatia late Saturday night. We arrived too late to be able to do anything, so we went to bed and woke up early Sunday morning to get ready for our day trip to Plitvice. We got reservations for a tour agency that came and picked us up from our hotel. After about an hour and a half in the bus, we made a stop at an animal farm which was really cool. I was shocked to see that they had two huge brown bears there behind a pretty skimpy fence, but the bears were surprisingly calm.
After staying at the farm for about a half an hour, we got back on the bus for another 20 minutes and arrived at Plitvice Lakes National Park.
I have never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life. It was really out of this world. The park was pretty giant so we were visiting it for a little over 5 hours. We started with a hike up the smaller waterfalls. The water was so unbelievably clear that I wanted to jump in and swim around the rest of the day, but unfortunately we weren't allowed to do that. When we saw all the smaller falls, we got on a boat and did a small boat tour to get to the bigger falls.
We made a short stop for lunch and hung out with a group of very nice American girls that were also in our tour group.
We then continued on to hike up a smaller sized mountain. When we got to the top, there was an incredible view of some of the waterfalls. We took a bunch of pictures, and then started descending the trail to arrive at a cluster of caves. At the bottom of the caves was the beginning of the most beautiful trail of all.
All of the trails were made of small logs nailed together. They ran directly above the waterfalls, so in many areas there was water flooding over the pathway.
This was the final trail to the biggest waterfall of all which was 75m high. It was truly an incredible sight. Right before the biggest fall was a trail that overlooked a valley with clusters of smaller waterfalls all joining each other at the bottom. At the moment I arrived there, in the middle of all the falls, was a beautiful giant rainbow. This was by far the most magnificent sight of all. It really felt like I was in another world.
I could go on and on about this but I think I've summed it up pretty well. If anybody every goes to Croatia, I absolutely recommend a trip to Plitvice. It will blow you away.
