Two days ago, I arrived back in Paris from my week spent in Croatia. After the incredible day at the Plitvice National Park, we stayed in Zadar one more day. We explored the downtown area, ate some pizza, and got our bus tickets to go down to Split the next day.
In Split, instead of staying in a hotel, we couchsurfed. I'm sure many of you have no clue what couchsurfing is, so let me explain. Couchsurfing is a kind of organization online made for travelers who can't afford (or just don't want) to stay in a hotel or hostel while traveling. So basically you search for the city you're traveling to and you can see a whole list of people who are a part of the couchsurfing community who live in or near that city. You can either message people directly or post on the general page for that city and say something along the lines of "hello, I'm coming to (enter city) from these dates and I was wondering if I could come stay with you". If the person is interested, they'll offer to host you free of charge. So my friend Alex and I couchsurfed at a very nice girl and her roommate's apartment near downtown Split for 3 nights.
For one day, we took a ferry to an island called Hvar and explored a few towns on the island. The 2 towns we went to are called Stari Grad and Jelsa. Both of them are very very old and beautiful. Every building was made of old stone and it felt like we went back 200 years in time. Unfortunately it was pretty cold when we were there, but we still enjoyed it.
My friend Alex continued her journey in Croatia down to the city of Dubrovnik, but I had to fly back to Paris in order to vacate my apartment since the rent was up.
I'm now beginning part 3 of 3 of my 5 month journey around the world in Santorini, Greece. I'm actually sitting at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris waiting to board my flight as I'm writing this.
Greece is the trip I've been looking forward to the most, and I'm very excited to arrive. I'll be spending 5 nights in Santorini and then taking a ferry to another island called Ios where I'll be spending 4 nights. I'll then take a ferry back to Santorini and spend one more night there because it was much cheaper to fly out the next day (haha).
I can't believe I left Chicago exactly 4 months ago. Time really flies when you're having fun. I spent probably about 10 hours total planning this next month out, so I'm very excited to finally experience what I've spent so much time planning. I've never been more ready for anything. Let's go!
