I cannot believe how amazing Greece is. The islands are so unbelievably beautiful it feels like you’re on another planet. I will absolutely be returning here as often as possible until I eventually buy a house and move here for good.
Santorini was beautiful but I preferred Ios. It’s a smaller island with a population of 2,000 people. It’s not only gorgeous but soooo much fun. In the last 10 days I’ve had more fun here than I’ve had in my entire life.
I was originally only supposed to stay for 4 nights, but when I woke up the morning I was supposed to check out of my hotel, I decided to stay another 4 nights. I was having way too much fun to leave. I had to change a flight, cancel 2 hostels and skip a ferry boat but it was well worth it.
Ios has a huge nightlife every single day of the week with the friendliest people I have ever encountered. I probably made about 200 friends since I got here. I’m very glad I went when I did. I was here during the end of low season which meant there was a perfect amount of people visiting. Not too little but not too many. The town and the beach were also the perfect size in the sense that I could meet somebody on the beach and say “see ya later!” and actually see them later in town (which has never happened to me before). I now have friends from all over the world and hope to be able to visit them one day.
I didn’t do too much in Ios during the day because there really wasn’t much to do. One day I rented an ATV with a friend and we rode it to a beach on the other end of the island called Manganari beach. Just the drive up there was phenomenal. The scenery was unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my life and will probably ever see again. The beach was empty and the sand felt like silk. I couldn’t believe it was real life.
Since my resort was right on the beach and it’s the biggest resort on the island, every day everybody would come to the beach during the day and swim, play volleyball, go tubing, and so much more.
My favorite thing about the island is the atmosphere. You can literally walk up to a group of people on the beach and say “hey! where are you from?” and chances are within the next few minutes you’ll become good friends. Everybody I met was so friendly, including the all of the staff, some of whom I became pretty good friends with. We’d all go out every night and have a crazy time. I’ll miss everybody a lot.
I did however officially decide that I’ll be coming back to Ios for the whole season next summer and getting a job in town. I cannot WAIT.
Right now I'm in La Spezia, Cinque Terre Italy which is a port town about 100 miles south west of Florence. I walked around a little bit today, but I'm still working on recovering from Ios so I'll be venturing out a little more tomorrow.
I really really really miss Ios and I really hope this next year flies by!
